Flat belts can be manufactured from any of our Pyrathane® materials in any thickness from .030" (.762mm) through .187" (4.750mm) and almost any width through 1.500" (38.1mm). Lengths beginning at 3-3/4" (95.25mm) are possible in many sizes. Longer minimum lengths are sometimes necessary with thicker cross sections. There are generally no maximum length limitations on the Pyrathane® flat belt.
Thickness / Minimum Length
- Thickness of .030 - .074" (0.76 – 1.88mm) Lengths down to 3.75" (95.25mm)
- Thickness of .075 - .089" (1.90 – 2.27mm) None less than 4.75" (120.7mm) in length
- Thickness of .090 - .125" (2.28 – 3.19mm) None less than 5.50" (139.7mm) in length
- Thickness of .126 - .190" (3.20 – 4.82mm) None less than 5.75" (146mm) in length
To achieve good tracking characteristics with flat belts, we recommend that they be run on a crowned drive pulley. The driven pulley can be crowned if crowning the driver is not possible. Generally, flanged pulleys are only suitable with thicker material. Several methods of achieving a crown can be employed successfully. See illustration.

Flat extrudate can also be manufactured from any of our Pyrathane® materials in any thickness from .030" (.762mm) through .187" (4.750mm) and almost any width through 1.500" (38.1mm). This material is sold by the foot and typically provided in a coreless roll. Flat extrudate can be used as is or welded into belts using our Handi-Weld belt welder.
Ambient Operating Temperature Limits Are -10° to +150° F (-23.3° to +65.6° C)
Pyrathane® materials will operate in temperatures below -10° F (-23.3° C); however, if allowed to rest, they take a set which is difficult to overcome and may indeed cause fracturing upon start up.
For applications with an ambient temperature outside of the above range, Pyramid Inc. has other Pyrathane® compounds which may be more suitable than those listed here. We also have available materials that are specifically designed for outdoor use or for environments with ultraviolet light exposure or for applications where static dissipation is desirable. |
